Alexandra aka Dzana, b. 1992
Alexandra aka Dzana (they/she) is an artist, filmmaker, and writer interested in community, belonging and identity. As a 2022 Fulbright-National Geographic Storytelling Fellow, Dzana is currently directing a collection of short films in Cagayan Valley, Philippines.
Dzana serves as Associate Producer on feature-length documentaries Fire Through Dry Grass (co-dir. Andres “Jay” Molina, Alexis Neophytides) and What The Pier Gave Us (dir. Luna X Moya). They have directed short films for the Brooklyn Museum and Henie Onstad Center, and while working with award-winning production company RAVA Films, she produced for Art21, the MET, MOMA, and the National Gallery of Art.
Dzana’s poetry appears in You Are Holding This, an abolitionist zine for and by adopted, fostered, and trafficked people. She was a 2020 ScreenCraft Screenwriting Fellowship Semifinalist and her narrative/fiction work has been recognized by Young Playwrights Inc., WeScreenplay, and Your Script Produced! Studios. She studied Spanish, Magical Realism, and Creative Writing at Sarah Lawrence College.
Dzana is a proud member of Writers Guild of America, East, Brown Girls Doc Mafia, and the Asian American Documentary Network.
